PUMAROSA CECILE

After signing to Chess Club Records (cozying up with the likes of Swim Deep and MØ), East Londoners Pumarosa stomped into our attention with ‘Priestess’ – and was nothing less than an epic debut, metaphorically and literally, coming in at seven minutes long. And as far as follow-up singles go, ‘Cecile’ definitely doesn’t disappoint. After a 30 second intro of heavy guitars and solid, consistent drum beats, the track opens up to a catchy bass line and then excels with the beginnings of its minimalist, synth charm.  Edging on Kate Bush inspired vocals from Isabel Munoz-Newsome, the band’s carefully constructed new wave energy combines simplicity with power. A hugely bright and boundless talent, check out Pumarosa at a festival circuit near you this summer. -JE
