‘Ybbs’ is the new track from newly created experimental duo Poeji. The pair, made up of vocalist Enji and drummer Simon Popp, have crafted a world made up of nothing more than percussion and voice that takes inspiration from German avant-garde, dub, downtempo and musique concrete. The track is centred on Popp’s cyclic percussive beat, played on aquaphone, bongos and a wooden slit drum, with Enji’s haunting voice creating colourful, unique layers above. The track was recorded live, with both members of the band in the same room mostly improvising based on emotion and natural synergy. Poeji’s debut album, Nant, is out now via Squama Recordings. They describe it as a “shared exploration, merging our diverse backgrounds into an unconventional yet distinctive soundscape.
