PET GROTESQUE PINGIN’ ALONE

Pet Grotesque’s latest release is a sonically unique alt-rock offering that merges a variety of different sound worlds. ‘Pingin’ Alone’ opens with muffled bass restricted to the right of the stereo field, before expanding to allow a bright keyboard and an explorative lead vocal. The track itself feels uplifting and jaunty, showing off that addictive DIY bedroom-pop sound that first showed itself on 2017’s Good Egg. However, there is a layer of darkness coming from Pet Grotesque’s lyrics, which he explains as “the blurring of self-gratification and self-destruction.” Keep an ear out for what’s next from the Lewisham-based singer-songwriter. -Dan Peeke
