PATIENCE THE GIRLS ARE CHEWING GUM

Former Veronica Falls front woman Roxanne Clifford has just announced Dizzy Spells, the debut solo album under her synth-pop moniker Patience. Lead track 'The Girls Are Chewing Gum' is an 80s-inspired bop that combines an alternating synth-bass line with reverb-drenched drums and a series of intricate vocal harmonies. Airing closer to the gothic new wave of Fad Gadget than the outright cheesy excellence of Tiffany's 'I Think We're Alone Now', 'The Girls Are Chewing Gum' takes its name from British artist John Smith’s B&W short film from 1976 entitled The Girl Chewing Gum. With the accompanying self-directed video continuing the nostalgia, Clifford transforms her L.A. bedroom into a disco draped in pink fabric, noting "the video is a literal and playful celebration of feminine self expression and confrontation." Dizzy Spells will arrive on the 3rd of May via Night School/Winona Records. -Holly Mullineaux
