OWEN RABBIT OH MY GOD
After an all-too-silent year, with just the release of ‘Weeds’ to tide us over, Melbourne resident Owen Rabbit proves that his warped brand of electropop is really going somewhere with the brilliant ‘Oh My God’. Stylistically, it falls square between Bonobo and the more epic tracks of Washed Out and M83 – an unlikely but surprisingly effective combination. As we’ve come to expect from Rabbit, the track is full of quirks and surprises: the opening lulls you into a false sense of security with light, percussive textures littered with clicks and snaps, before the chorus crashes in with a wave of epic, wailing synth. The vocals are similarly unique, with a rawness and familiar imperfection not unlike Thom Yorke and James Blake. ‘Oh My God’ is the first track from Rabbit’s forthcoming EP, which we’re promised “will be out hell soon”.
