South London-based songwriter and producer otta (aka Anna Ottridge) had us at hello with her innovative, jazz-flavoured introductory track 'small hours' back in 2019. Since then she's kept us busy with a string of ridiculously good singles from her after it all blew over EP and now her extended follow up EP Songbook. 'no more tears' is the penultimate on the aforementioned Songbook. Distinguished by hard auto-tuned vocals, pure sounding keys and atmospheric guitar strums, steady beats step into the picture shortly before the minute mark. Initially simple in its approach, the reassuring piece veers off in an unexpected direction towards the end, entering a darker, more experimental space as pitch-shifted vocals give way to an ambient outro that we didn't see coming.
