New faceless outfit Mulàn arrive this week with their incredibly strong debut single ‘Night’. Introducing themselves to the world with a manifesto of sorts, Mulàn have said: “Being aware of how little of the world you will experience, will allow you to see what is hidden. Night is the start of that awareness. Music created by 3 individual’s for the sake of creation solely. Identity is secondary to the output yet, never forgotten. Mulàn are Mulàn.” An intriguing introduction for sure, but it’s the music here which stands tall above the trio’s ambiguous aesthetic. Glistening with crisp electronic splashes, the influence of artists like Ben Khan or Jai Paul who have come before them fizzes under the surface, with an undeniably addictive electronic pop sheen. On the day of the release of this debut single, Mulàn were also named one of Annie Mac’s “New Names” for September - so this is a project with a plan, that’s already being executed with utmost precision.
