Toronto trio Motorists are gearing up to drop their much-awaited debut album Surrounded. We’ve been treated to the second single from the full-length: ‘Vainglorious’. Their jangly brand of pop is instantly addictive, with guitar work that sounds Smiths-inspired and melodies that feel like they’ve been plucked straight from the eighties. The track might have an uplifting feel to it, but the band have their finger on the political pulse when writing: “We have seen our prime minister’s smiling embrace of environmental justice causes, while actively campaigning for and benefiting from the Canadian petrostate off-camera.” Be sure to check out Surrounded on September 3^rd, 2021. -Dan Peeke
