Following on from our introduction to the young Polish-British producer Luke Marzec with the wonderful, isolating soundscape that is ‘Alone In The City’, we’re returning to this newcomer to get our ambient electronic fix. Marzec has just released his debut EP, titled Chances, which includes unheard addition ‘Within’. It’s a slowly evolving piece of gently touched keys, a tittering cymbal and a whining, violin-like synth. From this humble introduction we’re led on a journey within, finding new clarity with each smooth revolution. The tempo builds and sure enough you’ll find yourself transfixed, head bopping, feet tapping, until Marzec performs a sleight of hand to slip the beats out from under us. What’s left in these precious remaining thirty seconds, is a layered and hushed keyboard with a clever use of auto-tune to exaggerate Marzec’s emotions. This is where the key line strikes a real chord with the listener - “You don’t know yourself no more, until you’re looking within your soul.” ‘Within’ is a fine finish to this London talent’s very first EP, and we hope, not the last. - Hannah Thacker
