'Julia' is one half of the immaculate new single from Lowtide, via tastemaking new London label Opposite Number. The Melbourne quartet channel shoegaze legends Slowdive and My Bloody Valentine as metallic layers of guitar cry out beneath driving drum and bass work and a subtle vocal refrain that is as melancholic as it is chillingly empowering. The inspired cover, originally written and recorded in 1988 by the French band Asylum Party, is a gorgeous return from the four who continue to make a name for themselves in the burgeoning genre. -G.O'B
