LOU TERRY CALCIUM

South London-based stalwart Lou Terry edges closer to the release of his new album Building A Case with another wonderfully earnest single. Opening to alien synth drones, percussive guitar work and propulsive drums, there's a child-like sense of determination about 'Calcium' before the track takes a more existential turn, breaking out into sparse and contemplative B section. Taking numerous twists and turns along the way, Terry explains the inspiration behind the track, noting "how the impacts of making mistakes in your life change as you grow up. Remembering childhood conjures imagery of nature, boats, fish, algae, calcifying rocks, digging tunnels, animals burrowing, growing up with anxiety and breaking things in the process, reflected in the seemingly disparate parts of the song (e-bow, modular synth beats/textures/melodies, watery/pulsing guitars, weighty drums) locking together in a heavy unexpected climax." Accompanied by a tonally perfect animation by Toby and Ethan Evans-Jesra, 'Calcium' embraces the darkness and the light in getting older. -Holly Mullineaux
