Born in Toyko but living in Finland, LKA’s latest release, ‘Underwater’, shows that Scandinavia’s talent for immaculate pop knows no bounds. After the dancehall-inspired ‘Wildfire’, which caught the attention of bloggers worldwide, all ears were pricked towards LKA. Yet ‘Underwater’ seems to prove that ‘Wildfire’s unique brand of electropop was no one-hit-wonder. The track is written in collaboration with HANNAH (together the duo form Sky & Fey Music), and stylistically falls somewhere between MØ, Banks and Foxes. The chorus is an absolute belter, with hints of trendy tropical house, and the production is pop perfection: euphoric, crisp and textured. The track itself is a loving homage to her husband, who LKA says is able to understand her introverted mannerisms like no other: “Stay under the surface building our own layers / Comfortable on the sidelines as long as we’re together”.  - HM
