JVLY APORIA
Aporia is the state of being stuck, of being trapped in doubt, of believing what is both true and not true, and therefore unable to speak or act with any decisiveness. Australian artist JVLY captures this in new single ‘aporia’, a chilled electronic production akin to the likes of Still Woozy, Rhye and Charlotte Day Wilson. A disciplined songwriter, JVLY found new ease when creating this track, allowing the instrumentals and layers to flow and formulate organically. His irresolvable internal contradiction came later when trying to think of a name for the song, as nothing could quite summarise the genuine satisfaction that JVLY felt towards the finished product. Fittingly the lyric “I couldn’t have it both ways”, reflects the certainty and bewilderment experienced at different points of creating ‘aporia’. Below you’ll also find floaty visuals composed of footage filmed by JVLY while on a trip to Japan and directed scenes by Rodrigo Badoino in Sydney featuring Tyra Cartledge. ‘aporia’ is out now via Mammal Sounds, the label who will be releasing JVLY’s EP dropping this June. - Hannah Thacker
