London-based guitarist, activist and producer Jelly Cleaver released her entrancing debut EP Forever Presence on Friday. 'We Have Known Love' is its transportive penultimate track. Fusing together a plethora of styles and genres, the sprawling piece is perhaps most accurately described as a psychedelic entanglement of laid-back modern jazz. Brought to life by tactile percussion, in particular the hair-raising tinkling of wind chimes, deep double bass, vibey keys, rich cellos and melodic sax parts get to know each other atop of atmospheric phaser swells. Cleaver's relaxed incantations make an appearance just over halfway through, taking focus as the instrumentation recedes, before bursting into cathartic outro, lead predominantly by James Akers' tenor sax playing.
