Irish-Puerto Rican musician Jæd has shared her new track, ‘Bakkos’. The track is a unique blend of inspirations, with the industrial hum pairing with the artist’s love of Aphex Twin. She pushes her guitar to its limits here, without a single synth being used to create this mesh of otherworldly sounds. Despite its experimental genesis, ‘Bakkos’ is hugely melodic, with Jæd’s voice drifting into Kate Bush territory as her distorted guitar spins further and further out of control. “The distortion pedal is on full, the guitars are on full – everything’s on full, except the amp,” she explains. “I just brought the volume up slowly, and it feeds back to fuck. It’s really loud and crazy, but then you hold the guitar in a certain way, you get just enough feedback and enough notes, and it’s really visceral and gorgeous. You unleash it and bring it back, unleash it and bring it back.” Jæd’s debut album, I Loved The Gauntlet And There Was No Other Way' is out on November 29th, 2024 via Delphi. -Dan Peeke
