Austin folk-pop duo Hovvdy embrace forgiveness on their reflective new track ‘Everything’. Their first release since 2021’s breakout album True Love, although taken from the same recording sessions as the album, this track has a more upbeat feel to it, acoustic guitars are set against distinctively 90s sounding drum loops, gentle swells of electronics and delicate banjo plucks. This style of instrumentation and production is reminiscent of fellow bedroom artist Alex G or Bristol band Pet Shimmers, adding interesting textures and ideas to indie guitar music. ‘Everything’ is about “having fun even when you miss the mark” and has a melancholic but optimistic feel, the accompanying video by Boone Patrello made up of collaged VHS footage that flicker and merge and add to a sense of nostalgia and reflection. -Toby Evans-Jesra
