HELEN GANYA FORTUNE
Blessing us with a glistening new single, Brighton-based Scottish-Thai artist Helen Ganya imparts good luck to those around her with 'Fortune'. Lifted from her forthcoming album Share Your Care (arriving on the 7th of February via Bella Union), the uplifting track explores her Thai heritage sonically and thematically as she explains: “The floaty glossiness of the khim (Thai dulcimer) flies through ‘Fortune’, a track for my mum and for all the diasporic mums out there. I was thinking about the sacrifices so many Asian mums make and giving value, appreciation and recognition to them.” Paired with lo-fi guitar sounds and flickering electronics, Ganya's fusion of organic and synthesized instruments is genuinely masterful. Accompanied by a video "filmed in Thailand and features footage Ganya captured along the Ping river, with the ancient lost city of Wiang Kum Kam underneath, dotted by 99 subterranean stupas", 'Fortune' is a generous and immersive new offering from an artist with something very special about her. -Holly Mullineaux
