Brooklyn indie-rockers Glass Gang step it up once again for their third release 'Luxury' with a promise of immortality, at least until the night ends. As the band’s unparalleled vocalist proclaims, “And we’ll live a long time tonight!” The track is a spectacular play on tempos and a test of the listener’s ability to time their moves to the sudden switches. Going straight in with curdled drones, bleeping guitars and a riotous drum beat, we’re then thrown onto a plain of melodic notes and slightly steadier percussion. It’s somewhat disorientating, but at the same time gives us a chance to catch our breath, before being immersed once again in a forest of noise. Although it’s been suggested that this trio are representing a renewed interest in East Coast rock, it’s not exactly easy to peg them to that category and neither should it be. Before the wave of energy we know as the song 'Luxury', Glass Gang treated us to a shoegazey affair in 'Wild Light' and their striking debut 'Outside Your Love' six months back was on par with Arcade Fire for it’s indie rock grandiosity. With so much variety in just three tracks, there’s no doubt Glass Gang are ones to listen out for. - HT
