The unique indie stylings of David Kuehl and Nacey combine under the name Free Zuma to drop their latest track, ‘Dragonfly’. Having first explored their sound in 2012, they’ve had plenty of time to hone their intricacies into the varied output they’re known for today. Kuehl is able to switch from a ballady softness to an aggressive punk shout with ease, giving Free Zuma an emotional intensity that doesn’t just come from their heartfelt lyrics. As you might expect, the production stands out here, with light and airy vocals, a bright acoustic guitar and some subtle textural nuances combining to something of an audiophile’s dream. With such a feelgood sound coming from their collaborations, it’s no surprise that Kuehl says, “writing feels like a day at the skatepark”. - Dan Peeke
