‘It’s All Been Done Before’ is the latest cut from London-based six-piece Flat Party’s second EP of the year. The band are leaning into their alt-rock sound with this cut, as jagged, lagging guitar countermelodies bounce against the punch of the drums and bass, guided by some unique harmonic choices and structural twists. Vocalist Jack Lawther’s voice is particularly strong on this release, with an almost glam-rock delivery underpinning his acrobatic performance. “The music of this song is quite melancholic and unsure of itself, while the lyrics are just pure love,” the band explain. “It’s kind of fitting that the relationship I was writing about didn’t work out in the end; I was singing something that I didn’t believe and that’s evident in the song.” The band’s second EP, also called It’s All Been Done Before, is due for release on November 15th, 2024 on Submarine Cat Records. -Dan Peeke
