ETERNA WHATEVER REASON

Freshly signed to section1, former bar italia drummer Guillem Peeters releases cryptic track 'Whatever Reason' under new project Eterna. The Barcelonian native departed bar italia to bring Eterna to life, with 'Whatever Reason' being his second single released under a new name and new backing - Los Angeles label section. As one might predict, the percussion in 'Whatever Reason' becomes dominant immediately. Working like the slow chug of mechanical cogs, a kick and snare fall into one another to fill the gaps between upturned bass. Though there are several moments beyond Eterna's drum stylings to be appreciated. The groove behind the verses builds on a slight discord. It's as though the instruments are feeling around for one another in a dark room. This allows the track to hone in on an exploratory underground feel, just for everything to come together in a chorus sustained by moody licks. Asking 'what reason?' in muffled form makes Eterna's presence seem hidden, adding to the track's darkened presentation. Layers of antsy, flanging notes and sci-fi type electronic chirps evoke the intrigue of an obscure radio transmission, drawing you in to await what comes next. 'Whatever Reason' is Peeters' venture into an undefinable sound, which sees a sense of security within the formation of the Eterna persona. -Kayla Sandiford
