EL MICHELS AFFAIR POISON SONG
El Michels Affair have released their new record The Abominable EP following on from handful of enticing singles. Being El Michel's third record this year, he previously worked on Yeti Season, as well as the collaborative album Ekundayo Inversions with Liam Bailey. Cut from the same cloth, but using a different yarn, The Abominable EP is rooted in Michels' signature retro production style, but this time the instrumentation is influenced by international sounds like Turkish funk and Bollywood. 'Poison Song' is the third track on the album, opening with an intensely wah-infused guitar riff that lingers like smoke. The brass section has a dramatic feel, as if plucked from a bullfighting film from the 1970s. As the track progresses, the guitars gain more grit and distortion, and the drum and bass hits increase in drive and frequency. Sounding like a bird on psychedelics, a flute enters at the end of the song; the perfect way to close the track. Check out 'Poison Song' here! -Ellie Rose-Davies
