Orange County-based dark-sunshine-pop duo Double Wish have returned with their new single, ‘Aeroplane’. The track is built around a dual acoustic guitar strumming pattern, which was recorded on just one microphone in order to force the subtly contrasting sounds to remain merged. The intentionally dry vibe of the recording contrasts the usually dreamy texture of Double Wish tracks, but captures a different type of otherworldly-ness, especially when layers of washy synths add their own flourish. “There are definitely some Zelda vibes here too. We ended the track with this Mellotron lead that has this otherworldly, flute-like quality—it’s mystical, almost dreamlike, like you’re stumbling through a world that feels familiar but still out of reach.” Their new EP, Deeper Ecstasy, is out on February 28th, 2025 via Hit the North Records. -Dan Peeke
