BISHOPSKIN OLD SOCK

Avant-folk collective Bishopskin have dropped their new track, ‘Old Sock’. The swirling new release dives into complex ideas of human frailty, divine power and spiritual fatigue, presented over a unique blend of pastoral folk sounds and blues attitude. The slow accompaniment defined by strings and piano morphs into a countrified instrumental for its closing moments, with a funky drum pattern underpinning the masterful fiddle solo. “I had a leather-bound illustrated bible as a boy that had a picture of [Christ] sleeping on a roll of rope,” the band say, on the track’s lyrics. “It looked uncomfortable and if one were to row a boat with one finger it would be unlikely to move at all. But if the waters were very calm, I mean miraculously still, the boat might just go around and around and around and around.” Bishopskin play London’s Moth Club on January 24th, 2025. -Dan Peeke
