BIIG PIIG OH NO

South London-based artist Biig Piig is from humble, DIY beginnings, and signed to Sony last year. Her chilled, jazzy hip-hop has recently taken a turn in a poppier direction with catchy singles like 'Switch', and 'Don't Turn Around'. She's just released a new single 'Oh No'/'Liahr', which indicates Biig Piig's ever-evolving sound. 'Oh No' is strongly reminiscent of the late 90s, nodding to bands like Air and Zero 7. A fantastic sliding bass line is at the core of the tune, with Biig Piig's soft vocals gliding over the top, confessing 'oh no, I did it again, don't let my mind leak out and tell my friends, and now I'm lonely'. The rising synth in the chorus adds a lifting energy, whilst the stripped back verse brings it all back down to earth. Biig Piig's 'Oh No' is feels like an expression of a hard and insular time, it's beautifully melancholic. -Ellie Rose-Davies
