AUTOMATIC SKYSCRAPER
LA synth-punk purveyors AUTOMATIC have shared a soaring new single in the run up to their second album Excess. Written in response to the increasingly prevalent slog of capitalism and the monstrously powerful structures that perpetuate it, the band explain: “('Skyscraper') is about spending your life making money and then spending it to fill the void created by said job...Kind of like going to LA to live your dreams.” Sonically cool, and no-wave-y Izzy Glaudini's dead pan lead vocals execute sparse, catchy melodies, reminiscent of Elastica and Air at points, whilst cloaked in alternative 80s nostalgia that's difficult to miss. Excess will arrive on the 24th of June via the ever-credible Stones Throw. -Holly Mullineaux
