Annie Hamilton’s latest single is an incredible cover of the Supergrass classic, ‘Alright’. She takes the potent indie power of the original and cross-breeds it with her own laid-back, ethereal textures. Clean guitar arpeggios sit beneath her reverb-soaked vocal which brings out every nuance of melody that was lost to the more chaotic arrangement of the original - you hear lyrics you’d never noticed before, which brings new meaning to the track. She says that the original is “one of my all-time favorite songs and takes me right back to driving around with friends in the summer that I got my license, so we spontaneously decided to record a cover of it - we kept it simple, light and breezy, like a carefree summer afternoon.” Her debut album, the future is here but it kinda feels like the past, is out now. -Dan Peeke.
