We were a little enamoured by Andy Shauf's wonderfully psychedelic 'Magician' last month. Now the Canadian troubadour has unveiled the latest taste of his forthcoming album The Party - due 20 May via the ever-impressive indie label Anti Records. Once again recalling the dulcet, bluesy tones of Elliott Smith but with something of a playful grin, Shauf strums his way through this melodic, hippie-ish number, as gently splashing cymbals and a bumbling bass line float the tale along. "It's about a guy trying to find his girlfriend at a party, and about how easy it is to jump to negative conclusions," he explains. Currently on tour with the world-beating Lumineers, it feels the best is still to come from Andy Shauf. -G.O'B
