altopalo is the alternative electronic project made up of New Yorkers Rahm Silverglade, Mike Haldeman, Dillon Treacy, and Jesse Bielenberg. The Domino-signed band toured all over the US last year, and also played a couple of Europe shows. They've released an intimate new single called 'Honey'. This track features production that's charmingly unusual - there's thumping bass drum that wouldn't be out of place in a trip-hop track, twisted guitar playing and emotive electronics that rise and fall with the same emotion as a mournful violin. In the chorus, vocals are densely layered and respond rhythmically to the kick drum, creating a heavy dynamic sensation. Later the song mellows out with stripped back electronics and some soft and wonderfully melodic vocals that feel close and sincere. They played The Great Escape in Brighton last year, so fingers crossed altopalo will return to the UK soon. -Ellie Rose-Davies
