Jamie Cruickshank is a musical polymath. He’s one of the founders of Bristol DIY label Breakfast Records and moonlights as guitarist of both lo-fi legends Human Bones and punk group The Gnarwhals. As his debut single, ‘I Can See Totterdown’ shows however, he’s just as capable at producing breathtaking folk. Taking inspiration from his hometown of Bristol, the track layers acoustic guitar and strings around Cruickshank’s mellow, earthy vocal which flits effortlessly to a soft falsetto when needed. It’s a track which is simultaneously rich yet sparse, wintery yet warm, surprising yet comforting and baseline brilliant. What a debut – we can’t wait to see where Cruickshank takes us next. -HM
