Melbourne band Totally Mild are one step closer to releasing their second album, with another melodic single ‘From One Another’. Once again, Totally Mild take Americana traditions of guitar twang and steady, laid-back percussion, but give it their own Australian spin with a haze of dream-pop overseeing front woman Elizabeth Mitchell’s beautiful vocal. As with all the album tracks, ‘From One Another’ chronicles Mitchell’s journey through failure and victory, new desire, stale romance, queer domesticity and what comes when it’s all over. The message is clear her line, “do you even know how far you could go?”, questions what could happen once you step outside that relationship that’s holding our back. The instrumentation seems at odds with this reality-shaking admission. Mitchell’s lyrics represent a hardened disillusionment within a musical reverie, suggesting that the end is not quite in sight yet. Perhaps February 23rd and the release of the Her LP will be it. -HT
