SWIMM TRUE ROMANCE

From the Floridian coast to the Californian coast, Swimm isn’t sunshine-y beach-rock or upbeat indie-pop, rather they’re a kind of hybrid possessing the vocal melodies of Local Natives, the fuzzy guitars of Yuck, the sophisticated synths of Until The Ribbon Breaks, with a generous smattering of UK-style indie rock… perhaps a touch of Foals. This pick’n’mix is entirely moreish, especially when ‘True Romance’ is the flavour on offer. What’ll keep you coming back for more is the variety - the slow, funk bass verses, versus the crescendo reaching (but never quite getting there) chorus; the feather light vocals versus the warped production; the grunge-y guitars versus the spacey electronics. It’s a song of consistently opposing magnetic forces. That push and pull feeling is exactly what you’d expect from any good, honest romance story and that’s exactly what Swimm delivers. - HT
