SlowGlow is the side-project of Vinyl Staircase singer/guitarist Mike Thorpe and close friend Dom O'Brien. Of the new venture Thorpe explained, "Dom had some ideas knocking around on garage band and one sunny afternoon I sang some lyrics over them," and as easy as that SlowGlow was born. 'Billy Shears' is one of the dazzling results of those summery writing sessions, pairing a slow-grooving bass line with wonky lead guitar lines and pulsating synthesizers. Lyrically exploring the infamous Paul is dead conspiracy that alleges that the real Paul McCartney was killed in 1966 and replaced by a look-a-like, Thorpe perpetuates the theory with his cooly delivered verses and distant backing vocals that drift above the chorus. -Holly Mullineaux
