The latest signing to Warp, Lafawndah is a cultural force to be reckoned with. Having been raised in Paris with Egyptian, Iranian and English heritage, lived in Mexico City, Brooklyn, Tehran, Luxor and now supposedly in Chad, it’s easy to understand why musically she fits into no particular box. Taking elements from her varied background, ‘Town Crier’ from new EP 'Tan', out on 5^th February via Warp, is a percussive and rumbling number with a rebellious streak. It’s no wonder then that she has chosen to release the EP alongside an interview she has conducted with Harvard law Professor and socio-political advocate, Lawrence Lessig. Bridging the gap between music and social commentary, this won’t be the last we hear from Lafawndah. -SJ
